Our U19 boys select team, Victoria Fire 99, has advanced higher than any of our teams in over 10 years by qualifying to play at STYSA Presidents Cup State finals this weekend. What a great way to cap off the six-years this team has played together!
Victoria Fire 99 has had numerous obstacles to overcome to get to this point, both on and off the field, including a shift in playing level, injuries, and losing players. The team took first place in their WDDOA division for the year with 9 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw. Even with that success, they were not prequalified into Presidents Cup. They decided to take a chance and entered the challenging Presidents Cup anyway.
The team had to finish in first or second in their Presidents Cup bracket to advance to the playoff rounds. Our boys claimed the top spot in their bracket with 2 wins and 1 draw. Then they moved on to the “win or go home” playoff game to determine who would advance to Presidents Cup State finals. They pulled it off with a late scoring goal to win the game 1-0 against CSC Cobras 99B Red and earned their spot in the state finals!
STYSA Presidents Cup State finals will take place Saturday, May 19, and Sunday, May 20, at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex. Our team will play two games on Saturday and one game on Sunday. If you are in the Round Rock area, please go cheer these guys on!
