RISK MANAGEMENT: Background Checks and Participation Requirements
Any person that will interact with players in VYSO (including, but not limited to, coaches, assistant coaches, trainers, managers, assistant managers, board members, employees, other volunteer roles) must complete the following required steps:
Register in GotSport (select program) or LeagueApps (REC program)- Submit Background Check
- Upload a passport-style photo into GotSport account
- Complete the CDC Heads Up Concussion Training Module
- Complete the SafeSport Training Module or Refresher
Team Officials (coach, assistant coach, trainer, manager, assistant manager) must also be approved by the Board of Directors after completion of the steps listed above.
BACKGROUND CHECKS
Every adult that will interact with players must submit a Background Check within his/her GotSport account. The background check system is managed by VYSO’s parent association, South Texas Youth Soccer Association (STYSA). STYSA has a Risk Management Committee that reviews all background check results and make the determination to approve or deny individuals based on established Background Check Standards. The VYSO Board of Directors does not receive any information contained within an individual’s background check. The only information provided to VYSO by STYSA is whether the individual is approved or denied.

SAFESPORT
The requirement for individuals to complete the SafeSport Training has been mandated by the following organizations:
- Victoria Youth Soccer Organization (VYSO)
- WDDOA (league our competitive teams play in)
- South Texas Youth Soccer Association (STYSA)
- US Youth Soccer Association (USYS)
- US Soccer Federation (USSF)
- United States Federal Government: Safe Sport Act
